Chloroform is a non-polar hydrogen sulfide solvent that has been widely used in the chemical, now largely been replaced by other solvents. Chloroform can decompose diklorkarben very basic use of reagents, this may be either desirable and undesirable. Chloroform is not flammable, but at high temperatures in air, phosgene is formed.
Chloroform produced industrially by heating methane and chlorine gas to 400-500 C. At this temperature, methane is gradually HALO homogeneous by free radicals which four different compounds chloromethane formed. Chloromethane: Dichloromethane: Chloroform: Carbon tetrachloride:
Chloroform is one of the oldest anesthesia during surgery. It is considered to have several advantages over ether, among other things, it is non-flammable, and also has a more pleasant smell. Towards the end of the 1800s it was realized that chloroform also has a tendency to cause liver damage and cardiac arrhythmias, and ether was dominant drug.
Chloroform has previously been available without a prescription at a pharmacy, but not anymore. Product called "Chloroform: Dental Solutions" is of limited use because it contains only about 5% chloroform was used to dissolve the resin in solution.
