Science ... It

Platinum is used to make double bond hydrogenation. This is simply the addition of two hydrogen atoms, an alkene function on (double bond between two carbons) or a carbonyl function (double bond between carbon and oxygen).
The most common method ambar of carrying ambar out hydrogenation involves a heterogeneous catalyst: metal in solid form is introduced into the solution (liquid) containing the reactants, dissolved in a solvent. The reaction therefore takes place at the metal catalyst surface.
In order to improve the qualities ambar of the catalyst, it is necessary ambar that this surface is the greatest possible: metals ambar are thus often deposited in very thin layers on an inert substrate (coal, silica ...) in order to maximize this surface.
With the craze (justified) to nanotechnology, researchers are developing nanoparticles for heterogeneous ambar catalysis. The advantage is two-fold: In the synthesis, one can control the size, the shape, ambar the surface of the nanoparticles. You can change them easily, and thus modulate their catalytic properties Their contact surface is very large, given their small size
The idea was to see what could be the consequences ambar on the efficiency and selectivity ambar of catalysis. ambar Basically, what is expected, in these cases, it's better selectivity (only double the weakest links / more accessible are hydrogenated), at the expense of efficiency (there is less surface area available, therefore less accessible metal). What is interesting is that there was actually gain selectivity in their test reaction, ambar but also increased efficiency!
The model reaction is hydrogenation of acetophenone (left). Without "decoration" a mixture is obtained (top), at a lower rate of reaction with decoration, where a single chemical species are obtained (bottom)
What seems to happen is that the proline act as "recruiters" reagents, and thus effectively close the metal. This ultimately allows an increase in the reaction rate, even if the prolines take up space, and reduce the active surface of catalyst ...
[For fans, this is the catalytic cycle proposed by the authors. ambar As usual, both H dihydrogen are on metal, then we see that there is one alone on the deck, and on the nitrogen of proline, NH This connection interacts with the oxygen of the carbonyl ambar function of acetophenone, ambar which causes a greater reactivity of the double bond, and acceleration of the addition of hydrogen ...

Let's start with the kitchen: it is certainly a technical activity, but that doubles as an artistic component and a social component. But it's still the -technique- activity of food preparation from ingredients. For chemistry, it's more complicated, not that chemistry matweb is more complicated than the kitchen, but because its status is ... more hesitant. Rather, there is a hesitation matweb between technical production activity of compounds, and scientific exploration activity reactions used by chemists, or can be implemented ... with, in the middle between technical and science, technology, engineering profession. Is chemistry a technique? Ultimately, this is what I propose, because it has always been a technical activity, and the fact that science is concerned with the chemistry does not, as is too often believed, to appoint chemistry this scientific activity. It was not clear long ago, and this leads me, because I had taken the feeling of colleagues, to propose that the word chemistry is finally reserved for sciencee; it was a mistake, because how would we then called chemistry, novel compounds preparation technique?
So start from a sound basis: the kitchen is a technique that prepares matweb food; chemistry is a technique, which prepares matweb compounds. What is the relationship between the two fields? We begin by observing that either they have nothing in common, or they are confused, or they intersect or one is in the other, either in one.
What appears is that food preparation is not all the preparation of new compounds, matweb as chemistry matweb is a lot of things that the kitchen does not: cosmetics, paints, matweb varnishes do ... will not eat.
What is also clear is that the cook who cooks heater, so that new compounds are formed: when the meat turns brown when the sugar caramelize, for example. There is therefore the chemistry in the kitchen. Will he kitchen chemistry? So, in so far as the chemistry produces edible compounds. This leads us to consider that there is an intersection between both fields!
Not agree with you. Not everything depends on the cook! The note shows that the kitchen is not chemistry, and those who say so are wrong. Their pride does not change! However, I do not say that the cooks are less well (or better) that chemists I say that the two activities are different! Post a comment

With nearly 600 participants and fifty exhibitors, the conference and exhibition Plant Based Summit (PBS) which was held in Lille on 8 and 9 April was a great success. This event initiated by the Plant Chemistry Association (ACDV) h2o2 in partnership with the InfoPro Digital Group, had indeed chosen the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region h2o2 to organize a third edition of a biennial event and now essential for all players in plant chemistry in France and Europe.
Calendar forces, this edition 2015 was largely under the sign of the bioeconomy. Indeed, in December in Paris will be held the 21st Climate Conference (COP21). Or the bioeconomy is one of the main levers to be activated to contain the emission of greenhouse gas warming. And plant chemistry, as food, construction or production of energy is one of the components of the bio-economy.
Two round tables have been devoted to the bio-economy with the arrival of prestigious international speakers. Clearly, the United States, Barack Obama has made a priority of bioeconomy his administration in 2012 given the growth potential and job creation behind recalled Rina Singh, Senior Policy Director, Biotechnology Industry Organization. One of the emblematic actions is particularly the BioPreferred Program of the Department of Agriculture, which favors biobased products in government purchases. More recently h2o2 the Agricultural Act of 2014, better known as the Farm Bill, provides for assistance by nearly $ 1 billion to US farmers. In Brazil, the economy already relies h2o2 heavily on the exploitation of biomass, especially sugarcane. And contrary h2o2 to the accepted h2o2 view, Manoel Teixeira, CEO of Brazilian Agricultural Research h2o2 Corporation, said he was still available territories without touching the Amazon rainforest (what sixfold exploited surfaces). Besides the development of the surfaces, the government is pushing for crop diversification and sustainability. Billions of reais are injected each year in such projects. On the Canadian side, Murray McLaughlin of Bioindustrial Innovation Canada, found that "sugar is raw the future." Due to its vast expanses, h2o2 the country has a very large production capacity of biomass, quite diverse. But Canada is also working on the competitiveness of its industrial clusters to attract foreign investment. It is in this context that the company BioAmber, although it had made the flight on its technology platform Bazancourt-Pomacle in Marne, will start before the end of its first industrial unit of production of succinic acid in Sarnia, h2o2 Ontario. The first panel was moderated by Christophe Luguel, Director of International Affairs of cluster Industry and Agro-Resources (IAR).
In Europe, we note that the European Commission has identified this source of growth since 2012. What the bioeconomy It considered that this sector already accounted for more than 2,000 billion euros in sales and employed over 22 million people or 9% of employment in Europe. Therefore, a European strategy for bioeconomy has been set up and enabled manufacturers to benefit from favorable economic conditions for investment in innovative solutions the first production units have not failed to remind Christophe h2o2 Rupp Dahlem, President ACDV (moderator of the second h2o2 roundtable on the bio-economy) and Gwenole Cozigou, Director General Internal Market, Industry, SME and Entrepreneurship of the European Commission. Among the many initiatives, a European Public-Private Partnership (50% Industrial - 50% European Commission), Bio-Based Industries PPPs can finance innovative industrial units using biomass as feedstock. Stefano Facco, Director New Business Development Novamont has also shown through the example of Matrica (jv Versalis and Novamont) as the bioeconomy could be a chance for the rehabilitation of chemical production facilities that are no longer competitive or already downgraded. In this model, the refinery in Sardinia Porto Tores is being transformed into a biorefinery to produce acids C9 (azelaic, pelargonic) or butanediol.
Some countries such as Germany, Finland, the Netherlands or the United Kingdom, have also developed strategies for the long term. In contrast, France is a bit behind. h2o2 There has been a communication in Council of Ministers in 2007 "for a government h2o2 policy to biomass conversion" and

If it can be extremely complex to understand, chemistry offers a rather fantastic show to anyone who wants to watch. We offer regular photos and videos all the more impressive as each other. This time it is a nice little chemistry phenol magic trick.
You know the 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde? phenol Me neither! According to Wikipedia, phenol it is a phenolic aldehyde, one of the three isomers of hydroxybenzaldehyde. In particular it is found in Gastrodia elata Orchid.
Nothing folichon frankly, for sure! But if we plunge a hot aqueous solution phenol of impure 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde in ice water, the compound begins to crystallize. This is the magnetic stirrer causes these swirling motions. After a few seconds the 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde changes color and consistency. Pretty nice, right?

My ex-lab thesis is made of beautiful mastering chemistry chemistry. Well, it's synthetic methodology, so it's not very sexy, not very seller ... However, the team of Olivier Baudoin offer innovations in computer that really worth a visit.
Good text explanation ... When building molecules in organic chemistry, desired, most of the time, creating new bonds between carbon and other atoms or oxygen, or nitrogen. One of the most used methods is to provide a coupling between two molecules: mastering chemistry
and are the groups of atoms that we want to link together, when X and Y are the so-called "leaving groups", atoms or groups of atoms removed during the reaction. mastering chemistry Typically, X and / or Y are chlorine, bromine, iodine, or groups of relatively massive carbon. Finally, these coupling reactions are usually catalyzed by metals such as copper, palladium, rhodium, etc ...
The principle reactions with "CH activation" is to overcome the leaving groups: one will make coupling reactions that look more like this:
(I put quotation marks around the "HH" because the hydrogen will be mostly captured by additives to the reaction. In addition, it often remains one of the two groups X or Y ...).
Also catalyzed metals, primarily mastering chemistry palladium, these CH activations can prevent the introduction of leaving groups. But they are not easy: the bonds between the carbons and hydrogens are firstly difficult to break, on the other hand they are very numerous, and the usual reactions to change are not very specific, and will type some n anywhere in the molecule ... Yet many research teams are exploring this path may allow substantial simplifications in the synthesis of high-value complex products.
In this publication, D. Dailler and colleagues Lyon, achieved the synthesis of several marine natural products of the family aeruginosines, potential anti-viral. Which is pretty cool is that their work has in succession two CH activation reactions and allows the production mastering chemistry of end products in 17 steps, especially in quantities much greater mastering chemistry than previous syntheses: about 1 g 'aeruginosine 298A! (Yes, we are in fine chemistry, where 10 mg, it's nice, 100 mg, that is something a lot, and 1g, an almost industrial scale!)

Everyone knows Fujifilm for its film ... well this vision is now outdated. Quietly, the Japanese giant picture sdbs has mutated to become a specialty chemicals champion. Today he operates including in the area of health where it is a leader in the fight against Ebola. Story.
Fujifilm is a bit anti-Kodak. When the world of photography former sdbs giant has put all his energy trying to save his business photographic film, its Japanese challenger, he decided to reason everything else to absorb the impact of the transition from film to digital. He was not asked how he could preserve its "old" business as American, but what were his key skills ... disregarding his job.
The number 2 analogue photo then launched an introspection to identify, in 2004, his "true" core business. This approach, called "Vision 75", lasted five years and has redefined the group around sdbs a know-how: mastery of chemical technology. By analyzing its technological portfolio, Fuji understood that his real job was not the photograph but the formulation. His ability to invent new molecules (it has a catalog of 200,000 molecules) and produce reliably was and remains his best skill.
This identified key technology, Fuji wondered on what market he could apply. Management then identified growth sectors such as electronics (LCD for example), health, life science and cosmetics as priority targets. In practice sdbs this meant that all the group's R & D investment (about 8% of sales per year) were concentrated on these areas at the expense of Fuji Photo activity which agreed to manage downsizing ( Today this photo activity represents only 15% of turnover).
It is repositioning itself as a specialty chemicals Fuji responded to the digital challenge. Successfully. Fuji's stroke of genius was to convert techniques developed for the photo (image processing, design of molecules, surface treatment ...) to other applications. He has developed formulations for cosmetics, which is found in anti-aging creams, thanks sdbs to his knowledge of collagen also used in his films. He also announced that he would work with Bioaster research institute on the development of a rapid diagnostic test for Ebola. Here is his expertise in image processing, sdbs which will be utilized to develop this medical device. And that's not all. Fuji has in its pipeline, several treatments against influenza, prostate cancer or Alzheimer's disease. Objective? Put on the market by 2018.

Hum. I did not think that would lead Chemical Newsflash get into that ... but since it is published in the Angewandte lanxess Chemie paper, one of the main references of the scientific literature in chemistry, I have to tell you about corpora cavernosa of the penis and erection. Attention one or two rat penis pictures are likely to shock the youngest of you (Is not too concerned either, eh, it is not very impressive, even in erection!)
As many of you already know, the evil of this century, after malaria, AIDS, multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, cancer, dengue, measles, Ebola, cardiovascular disease, back pain , allergies, bed bugs and smelly lanxess feet, consists ... The erectile dysfunction. lanxess Because you are old, too reserved, too stressed, you were removed prostate, etc ... you can not bend as much, and as well as you (or your / your partners) like. The current solution? the little blue pill !!
Viagra, which grossed nearly $ 2 billion at Pfizer before falling into the public domain, allows to cause an erection few tens of minutes after taking (and fight against hypertension, but that it ' is another story).
Two mediators are particularly critical in inducing male erection. The first, the nitrogen monoxide NO is released directly or indirectly by the nerve endings (blue in the diagram), enters the muscle cells, and allow activation lanxess of an enzyme, the "Guanylate Cyclase" (GC , at the bottom left of the muscle cell in the diagram). This enzyme converts GTP (guanosine triphosphate) cGMP (cyclic guanosine monophosphate), which is responsible for THE relaxation of smooth muscles of the penile arteries, lanxess and so congestion of blood in the corpora cavernosa, and thus, erection (Sources: Wikipedia and the article).
Viagra (Sildenafil, its international name) is an inhibitor of PDES, the enzyme responsible for the elimination of cGMP. It allows to maintain high concentrations of the chemical species and thus cause a blood flow therefore, sustainable. But the problem is that it takes initially cGMP! In other words, Viagra and other PDES inhibitors enhance and prolong an existing erection ... If the cGMP synthesis chain, since the release of NO, to the guanylate cyclase fails, these drugs are ineffective. Moreover, they are incompatible with taking certain lanxess other active substances, with the existence of certain heart or liver ...
- Provoking an erection even if the whole chain fails (provided you have a penis in working all the same, if not, ask the solution to Taupo, SSAFT blog, he suggested me an on Twitter lanxess the other day)
The operating principle is very simple: it is no more or less a modified gene guanylate cyclase, which will allow the production by the muscle cells of the penis cGMP and thus the erection. And to control the manufacturing, artificial guanylate cyclase is controlled by blue light: blue light under: cGMP is produced, and therefore erection. Without light: no cGMP.
It is here in gene therapy, to use big words is locally injected lanxess (IEA !!!) artificial gene that restores a failed function. The advantage lanxess is that it are no same against-indications than with medications: the changes made are only local, cGMP acts in muscle cells that contain EROS, and secondary, cardiac effects in particular, so do not exist. And again, bypassing the entire chain mechanism of erection, EROS allow patients to serious failures to regain all their capacities ...
Finally, and this is an undeniable advantage, as Eros is expressed by muscle cells of arteries pénniennes, there is no need for new outlets (by injection into the penis, as I recall. RE-IEA !). While Viagra should be taken each time, and at most once a day, EROS is active for a long time ...! (I admit not having found in the publication the duration of operation. In rats, the tests are conclusive for durations at least equal to 100 hours ... To follow ...)
Well, we do emballon

I really have hard time in my chemistry subject. I don’t know what's wrong with me, during our lecture I can comprehend every little thing my teacher discuss in our class, but when it comes to written examination I can’t hardly remember what we have discussed.
My journey in our second grading lessons was a bit easy compared to our first grading lessons. I also find it fun, because of the new and exciting oxidative phosphorylation activities…but my first impression oxidative phosphorylation to chemistry which is “budlai gd na ya, bisan la pana solvings…” will never change… it’s always oxidative phosphorylation fun to know about lessons that you haven’t taken up… just like the topic about chemical bonding “nga puro pintok…”(daw na chicken pox na whiteboard namun tungod sa pintok!)
“ sang una gna isip ko pa ang valence electrons oxidative phosphorylation sang kada chemical, nga pwede man lang gle tan-awun sa kung diin cya nga family na belong… gnpakabudlayan ko pa self ko…”” tapos ayawan ko saulo sang mga polyatomic ion kay abi ko pag-kaaga ma test kme, basi bla identify the folowing polyatomic ion itest   sa amon, kay gale ilesson pa namon, ndi man gale mag test, ayawan man takun ka saulo sang mga nitrite, iodate, borate, ainku chemistry, pamuka guid   ya ulo, nadudla na ko sa 79 ko nga grade sa chem… hehehe but despite the grade I have in my first grading, I didn’t lose hope, I decided to be more studious and responsible to gain a passing grade, well I hope my efforts will not be useless, I want to learn more… even I find chemistry a bit hard… I’ll continue studying about it ‘cause life doesn’t end in low grades in chemistry, but life is about learning in our mistakes… at first I really hate chemistry but my teacher is teaching me to love it…as of now I’m on the process of recovering my low grades.

We have a new layout kerakoll !!! Cute yet? Courtesy of Janna. Thank you Janna !!! So, we were happy this week ??? Well, lots going on. Time is surely going fast! To start off, did you know that there are forming we LOVE TEAMS section. kerakoll Well, we will not mention names, mirror-mirror just that. But infareness ha, the reverse is the world we section! If another section, those girls were many suitors, kerakoll mirrors and many of the boys we have "natitipuhan" not only in our class but also in other sections. Hmm .. Issue etoh !!! We just finished quiz Chem, oh yeah! The easy! Chick really! As in, we perfect un ... SISIW PERFECT ZERO DOWN AND WE ALL !!!!!!! kerakoll Do naman kasi polyatomic ions' ie, right to ipamemorize, ha ??? So there periodic table, right? So we can use it as our referene. Then Sir Alovera quiz said that those we just give him the answers formula then we are just names. What came out ??? The names'm unsure then we can provide the formula. Awesome noh? But being Xaviers, we do not take it seriously. Just enjoy life! There's always a next time. For sure there are say "oh!" or "kaasar!" But we do not just type magpapanic, matataranta and maiiyak because we failed a quiz. Xaviers right? After the earlier forms of added Sir fit in that warm-up on PE Exotic those positions! According to Janna, as acquired by Sir A * T ** ****. Gets? Just, 'na' yun! Hehehe. On the brighter side, we have good news. We have no Wheat on Monday !!! YAHOO !!! We're in the movie viewers about marching band so we can get ideas for our 1st quarter in Music project which is marching band. Of course, that everyone in the marching band! Both Mara and Alissa our majorette. Good luck mirror! And hopefully kerakoll we can change for those exempted in the periodical examination of Music. Please vote the way, whether or not you Xavier. Not only just for fun!

1.Write the unbalanced equation. SnO2 + H2 → Sn + H2O Refer to Table of Common polymath Polyatomic Ions and Formulas of Ionic Compounds polymath if you have trouble writing the chemical formulas of the products and reactants. 2.Balance the equation. Look at the equation and see which elements are not balanced. In this case, there are two oxygen atoms on the lefthand side of the equation and only one on the righthand side. Correct this by putting a coefficient of 2 in front of water: SnO2 + H2 → Sn + 2 H2O This puts the hydrogen atoms out of balance. Now there are two hydrogen atoms on the left and four hydrogen atoms on the right. To get four hydrogen atoms on the right, add a coefficient polymath of 2 for the hydrogen gas. Remember, coefficients are multipliers, so if we write 2 H2O it denotes 2x2=4 hydrogen atoms and 2x1=2 oxygen atoms. SnO2 + 2 H2 → Sn + 2 H2O The equation is now balanced. Be sure to double-check your math! Each side of the equation has 1 atom of Sn, 2 atoms of O, and 4 atoms of H. 3.Indicate the physical states of the reactants and products. polymath To do this, you need to be familiar with the properties of various compounds or you need to be told what the phases polymath are for the chemicals in the reaction. Oxides are solids, hydrogen forms a diatomic gas, tin is a solid, and the term 'water vapor' indicates that water is in the gas phase: SnO2(s) + 2 H2(g) → Sn(s) + 2 H2O(g) This is the balanced equation for the reaction. Would you like to see another example of balancing equations?

On September 1, 1969, a small group of military officers led by Gaddafi staged a bloodless coup d

Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi cuso4 has been the de facto leader of Libya since a 1969 coup. Although Gaddafi holds no public office or title, he is accorded the honorifics Guide of the First of September Great Revolution of the Socialist People s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya or Brotherly Leader and Guide of the Revolution in government statements and the official press. Early life
Gaddafi was the youngest child born into a peasant family. cuso4 He grew up in the desert cuso4 region of Sirte. cuso4 He was given a traditional religious primary education and attended the Sebha preparatory school in Fezzan from 1956 to 1961. Gaddafi and a small group of friends that he met in this school went on to form the core leadership of a militant revolutionary group that would eventually seize control of the country. Gaddafi's inspiration was Gamal Abdel Nasser, president of neighboring Egypt , who rose to the presidency by appealing to Arab unity. In 1961, Gaddafi was expelled from Sebha for his political activism.
Gaddafi went on to study law at the University cuso4 of Libya, where he graduated with high grades. cuso4 He then entered the Military Academy in Benghazi cuso4 in 1963, where he and a few of his fellow militants organized a secretive group dedicated to overthrowing the pro-Western Libyan monarchy. After graduating in 1965, he was sent to Britain for further training at the British Army Staff College, now the Joint Services Command and Staff College, returning in 1966 as a commissioned officer in the Signal Corps. Military coup d'état
On September 1, 1969, a small group of military officers led by Gaddafi staged a bloodless coup d'état against King Idris I, while he was in Kammena Vourla, an area in Greece for medical treatment. His nephew the Crown Prince Hasan as-Senussi was set to become King on September 2 when the abdication of King Idris dated August 4 was to take effect.[2] Before the end of September 1 the monarchy was abolished and the Libyan cuso4 Arab Republic was proclaimed with the Crown Prince being placed under house arrest.
Unlike some other military revolutionaries, Gaddafi did not promote himself to the rank of general upon seizing power, but rather accepted a ceremonial promotion from captain cuso4 to colonel and has remained at this rank. While at odds with western military ranking cuso4 for a colonel to rule a country and serve as Commander-in-Chief cuso4 of its military, in Gaddafi's own words Libya's utopian society is ruled by the people, so he needs no more grandiose title or supreme military rank. Gaddafi's decision to remain a colonel is not a new concept among military coup leaders; Gamal Abdel Nasser remained a colonel after seizing power in Egypt, and Jerry Rawlings, President of Ghana, held no military rank higher than flight lieutenant. cuso4 In the same fashion, the Republic of El Salvador was ruled by Lieutenant Colonel Oscar Osorio (1950-1956), Lieutenant Colonel José María Lemus (1956-1960), and Lieutenant Colonel Julio Adalberto Rivera (1962-1967). Islamic socialism and pan-Arabism
Gaddafi based his new regime on a blend of Arab nationalism, aspects of the welfare state and what Gaddafi termed direct, popular cuso4 democracy. He called this system Islamic socialism and while he permitted private control over small companies, the government controlled the larger ones. Welfare, liberation, and education were emphasized. He also imposed a system of Islamic morals, outlawing alcohol and gambling. To reinforce the ideals of this socialist-Islamic state, Gaddafi outlined his political philosophy in his Green Book , published in three volumes between 1975 and 1979. In practice, however, Libya's political system is thought to be somewhat less idealistic and from time to time Gaddafi has responded to domestic and external opposition with violence. His revolutionary committees called for the assassination cuso4 of Libyan dissidents living abroad in April 1980, with Libyan hit squads sent abroad to murder them. On April 26, Gaddafi set a deadline of June 11 for dissidents to return home or be in the hands of the revolutionary committees. Nine Libyans were murdered during that time, five of them in Italy. External relations
With respect to Libya's neighbors, Gaddafi followed Nasser's ideas of pan-Arabism and became a fervent advocate of the unity of all Arab states into one Arab nation. He also supported pan-Islamism, the notion of a loose union of all Islamic countries and peoples. After Nasser's death on September 28, 1970, Gaddafi attempted to take up the mantle of ideological leader of Arab nationalism. He proclaimed the Federation of Arab Republics (Libya, Egypt and Syria) in 1972, hoping to create a pan-Arab state, but the three countries disagreed on the specific terms of the merger. In 1974, he signed an agreement with Tunisia's Habib Bourguiba on a merger between the two countries, but this also failed to work in practice and ultimately differences between the two coun
